Recycle Out Of Date Hair Products

Spring cleaning is all about decluttering and clearing your space. It's easy to not notice that hair products such as shampoos and conditioners have gone out of date. Check the expiry date of all cream or liquid-based hair products in tubs and bottles you may have. If any are out of date, make sure to wash them out and recycle them.

Once your cupboards are cleared of any out of date hair products, you can refill them with the right hair products for you. Not sure which hair products you should be using for your hair? Our hair care experts can recommend the right products for your hair type.

Clean Your Hair Brushes

Did you know that you should be washing your hair brush with a cleansing shampoo at least once a week! This helps to avoid brushing dirt and grease back into your hair. You should be regularly cleaning your hair brushes by removing any hair that's caught in the bristles.

If you have a wooden hair brush or paddle hair brush, make sure to check the manufacturer's guidelines on how to wash your brush so that you don't spoil the wood effect.

Clean Your Hair Appliances

It's important to note that you should NEVER put your electrical hair appliances in water! The best way to clean your heated styling tools is to make sure that they are turned off, unplugged and completely cold. You can then use a damp cloth to clean the styling plates. Hair straighteners, curlers and curling wands need to be cleaned regularly to get rid of germs, dirt, sprays and serums that get left on them after use. Make sure that your heated styling appliances are completely dry after cleaning before you use them again.

Your hairdryer is another heated styling tool that needs to be cleaned - but this is slightly different to the appliances mentioned above. Hairdryers have filters that catch dust and dirt. If the filter becomes full, this can affect how the dryer performs. Check your hairdryer's manufacturer instructions to see how to remove the filter to clean it. Make sure your dryer is unplugged before removing the filter! Simply wipe with a damp cloth to remove any dust and dirt and then make sure it is completely dry before you switch it back on.

Upgrade Your Bedding

Your bedding can affect your hair and face as you lie against it for hours every night! Rubbing your hair against your pillowcases can cause hair breakage as well as bacteria transfer and even wrinkles on your face. Upgrade your bedding to a silky pillowcase to reduce friction to help reduce hair breakage. Sleeping on a smooth surface can also help make your skin less prone to wrinkles.

If a silky pillowcase isn't for you, make sure that you are washing your bedding regularly to avoid bacteria build-up!
