Top Tips For a Healthy Scalp at Phoenix & Fire Salon in Paradise Point
We all know how important a great skincare routine is, but what about scalp care? Even if you spend a lot of time and resources taking care of your face, you might not be paying enough attention to your scalp. A healthy scalp is essential for good hair growth, softness, volume, and thickness. Despite its importance, many people overlook scalp care until there is an issue, such as a flaky scalp.
Your scalp is covered with sensitive skin and has thousands of hair follicles. Without proper care and nourishment, it can't support the healthy environment necessary for hair to grow well.
Here are our tips for achieving and maintaining a healthy scalp.
Deep Cleansing For a Healthy Scalp
For a healthy scalp, aim to wash your hair every three or four days. However, if your scalp gets very oily, you might need to wash it daily. On the other hand, if it's prone to dryness, once a week might be enough.
Whatever your routine, make sure to clean your scalp well when you wash to avoid product build-up, which can cause issues. Along with your regular shampoo, consider using scrubs and clarifying treatments to keep your scalp in top condition.
Choose High Quality Products
To keep your scalp healthy, steer clear of certain ingredients found in many hair products. Harsh chemicals like sulphates (which make bubbles) and phthalates (used for fragrance) can stick to your skin and cause irritation. Instead, choose hair care products made with genuine, natural ingredients.
At Phoenix and Fire Salon, we are proud to use the Davines range of products both in salon and for our clients to use at home. Davines is a great option because they get many of their ingredients from sustainable farms in Italy.
Treat Your Scalp to a Massage
Massaging your scalp has several perks: It helps remove dead skin cells and product build-up, letting your scalp breathe, and boosts circulation. Better blood flow to your scalp stimulates nerves and feeds hair follicles, encouraging hair growth. Plus, it's a great stress reliever.
To do it with your fingers, gently press and move in small circles across your scalp. You can do this dry or with conditioner whilst in the shower. Alternatively, you can use a rubber massage tool or brush, using the same circular motion.
Feed Your Scalp From Within
A balanced diet filled with essential vitamins and minerals is crucial for both skin and hair health. Foods like nuts and oils rich in fatty acids can enhance cell function and add a radiant shine to your hair, while vegetables high in beta-carotene, such as carrots and sweet potatoes, help maintain moisture in the scalp.
As the saying goes, beauty starts from within, and this holds true when considering what you eat and drink to support scalp health. Nutrition and lifestyle choices play a significant role in the condition of your hair and scalp. Incorporating foods rich in beta-carotene, vitamin C, fatty acids, iron, and B vitamins can promote hair growth, fight off harmful bacteria, prevent hair loss, and encourage cell rejuvenation, respectively.
Keep Your Scalp Sun-Safe
Never forget to shield your scalp from the sun's rays. Whether it's with a hat, a scarf, or sunscreen, always protect this sensitive area. The skin on your head is fragile and can easily be harmed by the sun, potentially leading to serious issues like melanoma. So, no matter how inconvenient it may seem, always take steps to keep your scalp safe from sun damage.
Hydrate For Health!
Staying hydrated is crucial for keeping your skin healthy, including the skin on your scalp. If your scalp feels dry, itchy, or flaky, it might be a sign that you need to drink more water. The amount of water you need each day varies depending on your lifestyle and weight, but generally, it's recommended to drink around 2.5 to four litres per day to stay well-hydrated.
